Examples of Problems and Successes
Driveways
PROBLEM: See how the driveway has sunk below the garage floor level.
PROCESS: Driveway being lifted prior to voids being filled with ultra-dry sand.
PROBLEM: Water has eroded a significant area below a driveway slab
PROBLEM: See the empty void beneath this driveway.
PROBLEM: Much of the driveway is NOT supported due to erosion
PROBLEM: This photo shows how much of the original driveway base was gone. Look closely and you'll see the other side of the driveway. First, we lifted, then we filled this huge pocket completely with ultra-dried sand.
PROBLEM: Another HUGE cavern under a concrete slab. Let the sinking begin!
PROBLEM: Look closely at the "dropped driveway." It's time to first lift, then fill the voids beneath.
SOLVED: The driveway had settled 3" below the garage floor level. It was successfully lifted, then ultra-dried sand was injected below the slab for stability
SUCCESS: A close-up of what was a 3" driveway settlement - first lifted, then filled. This photo was taken 20 months after the repair.
Patios
PROBLEM: A massive amount of the original base had eroded and the slab had begun to sink.
PROBLEM: Water had made its way under this small patio slab an settling had begun.
PROBLEM: The concrete slab had already started to sink due to water-erosion.
SUCCESS: This beautiful, large patio had sunk nearly 6" prior to lifting and filling. The owner thought she'd have to rip it up and start over before she called Chuck's Sandjacking. Part of this project included lifting and filling under the deck on the left.
PROCESS: This show one of our 30 different unique methods of lifting a concrete slab.
SUCCESS: At the corner, this 7' x 20' slab had settled 5" and there was a 3.5" drop below the door. We lifted, then filled under the concrete all the empty voids with ultra-dried sand. It now is slopped perfectly to provide positive water drainage to the yard.
PROBLEM: At the corner of this south Fargo twin home patio, the slab had dropped nearly 4" before we lifted it and finally filling in all the empty areas under the concrete with ultra-dried sand.
SUCCESS: This is the AFTER photo showing how we brought the patio up to its original level, slopping it enough for proper water run-off.
Steps
PROBLEM: Look at the upper left corner of the steps. The concrete is sinking because the base below it had suffered significant erosion.
PROBLEMS: 1) the entire steps unit has sunk (see the gap below the door) and 2) the sidewalk has sunk below where it should be even with the steps. Lots of lifting, then lots of injecting ultra-dried sand to establish a solid base below.
PROBLEM: See how much the steps and sidewalk have settled. Look at what a hazardous "first drop there is from the door to the platform. We fixed it!
SUCCESS: This is just after we'd finished lifting the steps and side columns and filled the "underside" with ultra-dried sand.
PROBLEM: See the 6" drop from the doorway to the landing of the sunken steps.
Sidewalks
PROBLEM: Since original construction at this commercial property, the base had seriously eroded the sidewalk had begun to settle. We fixed it!
PROBLEM: A newly built home already had sidewalk issues. See the empty void below the front section.
PROBLEM: this slab was already sinking and water had eroded beneath the concrete. We lift, then filled with ultra-dried sand for a long-lasting, solid base.
PROBLEM: See the YELLOW paint? That was done to "tell" people the sidewalk had sunk and it was dangerous. It was an easy "lift and fill" project.
PROPBLEM: Another senior citizen's dangerous sinking sidewalk and we lifted, then filled.
PROBLEM: This gap was allowing water to penetrate beneath the driveway and settling had already begun.
PROBLEM: At Fargo City Hall, the front door apron had sunk nearly 2" causing a serious "accident waiting to happen" situation. We lifted it to a level position and filled all the voids underneath with ultra-dried sand.
PROBLEM: A "proof" photo at the Fargo City Hall showing the dropping front main entryway concrete slab. See the credit card showing a nearly 2" drop. We fixed it!
PROBLEM: Downtown Fargo Library entryway sinking sidewalk. Hazard! They'd tried to patch it, but we brought it back to level in a short time.
SUCCESS: We raised the sunken sidewalk at the east Downtown Fargo Library to assure safety for visitors.
SUCCESS: This shows how we raised the sidewalk to the proper level at the Downtown Fargo Library entrance. If you look closely you'll see we sloped (precise lifting) it just enough to facilitate proper water drainage.
